Nurturing Beauty Nurtures Community at Abloom Salon

It is a pleasure to interview salon owner Alejandra Martinez from Abloom Salon, located in Phoenix, Arizona. Alejandra’s natural approach to beauty, along with her vision to create a holistic place of beauty, allows clients to learn about natural ingredients such as oils, aloe, honey, plant infusions, herbal tea washes, salts and more.  As a beauty herself, she nurtures her beauty community.  Learn more from her about the importance of organic beauty products in her life and how she applies those values with her clients.

Innersense: Why are organic products important to you?

Alejandra: I think it’s important to know what we’re truly eating and putting on our bodies. If I’m buying something that is organic, I know that I’m getting something real. When whole foods are used instead of GMO’s, for example, you know you’re getting a higher value and it’s how it was before it’d been altered. I want to know what I’m using and I want to know that it comes from the earth in a natural way.

Innersense: How has using organic beauty products and natural ingredients changed your hair, skin, and mentality as a stylist?abloom flyer

Alejandra: Using organic beauty products has changed my awareness of what we need and what we really don’t need. It has simplified my life in that I have become a label reader— I can now make anything out of reading the ingredients because when it’s a plant based product, then we’re looking at raw ingredients. I have a higher awareness of how often I need to cleanse my hair, what the purpose of cleansing my hair is, and what’s too harsh. My hair is healthier, longer, shinier, and doesn’t get dirty that often. I think that hair needs very little in terms of ingredients, which is why I use Innersense Organic Beauty. They use the ingredients that I believe make a difference in the hair (primarily aloe) which makes it easy to have Innersense Organic Beauty in my own salon. It gives my clients the purity and convenience of having it in a bottle for those who don’t want to make their own products.

Innersense: How do you apply your values in your work environment and with your clients?

Alejandra: I don’t talk anyone into anything that I don’t truly believe in. I simply share my techniques and my tips with my clients because I feel like everyone should be doing them for a number of reasons:

the consumer saves money, they become more aware of what they’re using, and they understand why it’s working. It’s important to educate people on the real ingredients that are strengthening their hair and bringing the moisture back because a lot of our industry is built on destroying the hair texture and then selling a product that repairs it. Everybody wants solutions but they don’t always know how to find them, which is why it’s so important for me to educate my clients. To me, inner and outer beauty are largely integrated. It’s so important to embrace health and wellness on the inside, as well as the outside.

Innersense: What is your favorite Innersense Organic Beauty product and why?

Alejandra: My favorite Innersense Organic Beauty product is Quiet Calm Curl Control because it has everything that curly hair needs, specifically the aloe for moisture and the shea butter for heavy control. The proportions are spot on, which makes it really convenient for consumers who are not used to mixing their own products. I have never been disappointed with Innersense Organic Beauty — their products do what they really need to do.
