Happy, Healthy Hair: A Salon Chat with Midtown Curls
It’s barely a year old, but Midtown Curls in Reno, Nevada, is already known for its down to earth vibe, all things balayage and creative color. And of course, the curls. When 25-year-old owner and nature lover, Anna Gabriella Palotai, opened the studio, she took her cue from Mother Earth, creating an atmospheric place where her clients can feel at ease with their service, and the products on the shelves.
“We are known for teaching people how to achieve happy, healthy hair, but our specialty is with curly hair textures,” she says. After spending a day with Anna and her fellow stylist, Loni Jean Lafinier in San Francisco recently, we just had to know more about this fresh, new salon and the young talent behind it!
Innersense: Why are organic products important to you?
Anna: I love organic products because everyone deserves to be treated the healthy way, free of toxic chemicals and harmful ingredients. Loni loves organic products because she knows exactly what she’s using and knows how they work to benefit her and her clients.
Innersense: How has using organic beauty products and natural ingredients changed your hair, skin, and mentality as a stylist?
Anna: My hair has NEVER felt this healthy in forever and that’s an understatement. My clients and I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the products. We feel so blessed and lucky to be a part of such a loving and caring company. I know that my clients aren’t harming themselves with toxic chemicals and that makes me happy.
Innersense: How do you apply your values in your work environment and with your clients?
Anna: I am constantly teaching and educating my guests, from product knowledge to product application and how to take care of their hair at home. And Loni wouldn’t use anything on her clients that she wouldn’t use on herself or her loved ones.
Innersense: What is your favorite Innersense Organic Beauty product and why?
Anna: I can’t just choose one product, that’s impossible. I love them all! My top four though would be Color Radiance Conditioner, Harmonic Healing Oil, and I Create Hold and I Create Volume. The smell of the conditioner is to die for with moisture for days. Harmonic Healing Oil should be called “miracle oil” because it truly works for a million different things. The oil is universal and works wonders.
Both gels are fabulous, they offer hold and shine while leaving the hair feeling light, like there’s no product in it at all. My favorite thing about the products is that the tiniest amount goes a long way because it’s not diluted with tons of water. So amazing.
Innersense: As a curly hair salon, what’s your advice for curly girls?
Anna: Be very aware of the ingredients in the hair products you use. Stay away from silicones, sulfates and harmful chemicals that will damage not only your hair but your skin as well. Throw away your brushes! You’re best off without them!
